Indonesia Labor Code Amendments

Effective since 2nd November 2020, the Indonesian president, Joko Widodo, passed the “Omnibus Law” in an attempt to enforce new job creation laws. The amendments were aimed to create more investment and job opportunities by simplifying the process of issuing licenses. The Job Creation Law allows the ease of doing business in Indonesia through streamlined regulations and procedures.

The Republic of Georgia Leave Policy

According to the Organic Law of Georgia, all Georgian citizens are equal before the law “regardless of race, color of skin, language, sex, religion, political or other opinions, national, ethnic and social affiliation, origin, property or social status, place of residence or any other characteristics.” The labor code of The Republic of Georgia is a comprehensive, legally binding document that clearly states the scope of the law, what constitutes labor relations, and the framework under which terms and agreements of employment are stated.

Australian Taxation Office Makes Changes to Choice of Superannuation Fund Rules

From November 1, 2021, employers onboarding new employees may be required to take an additional step if the employee does not choose a super fund. They may now need to request their ‘stapled super fund’ details from the Australian Taxation Office (ATO).

White House Announces Broad Vaccine Mandate Covering Private Employers

In an address on September 9, 2021, American President Joe Biden announced that the United States Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) would develop an emergency rule requiring all employers with at least 100 employees to ensure their workforce is fully vaccinated or require unvaccinated employees to produce a negative test at least once a week.

Jamaican Bar Association President Urges Government to Clarify Stance on COVID Vaccine Mandates

Comments made by a Jamaican Ministry of Labour and Social Security official have sparked debate on the issue of employer vaccine mandates amongst members of Jamaica’s legal community. In an interview with the Jamaican Observer, Gillian Corrodus, the Ministry’s divisional director of industrial relations, seemed to hint that employer vaccine mandates would violate International Labor Organization Convention 111, which addresses discrimination.

On August 26, 2021, the Chinese Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security and the Supreme People’s Court (SPC) jointly released a batch of “model” cases that provide new guidelines for Chinese companies regarding limits on employee overtime.
